1985 Ford RS200 Evolution
The Ford RS200 Evolution has been in Forza for quite a while now – since Forza Motorsport 3 to be exact, which will make it almost 10 years. The RS200 was a car designed specially for Group B Rally, an FIA class introduced in 1982 with very limited regulations on power, production, and more importantly, safety. This led to it being abolished after a few accidents in 1986 which led to 2 drivers, and three spectators losing their lives and many more injured. The Ford RS200 only was able to compete for a full year of racing, which was a shame, considering what it was. It’s a short wheelbase, mid engine, 4wd, 600+ hp monster, created to do one thing, and one thing only. Race. It’s short overhangs made it perfect for jumps and tight hairpins, and the short wheelbase made it agile on dirt and snow. For me it defines Group B. Ford wasn’t worried about it selling, they had nearly no limits in the creation of this and that allowed them to create one of the purest cars out there. I love driving this in Forza. Whether I’m in FM7, tearing around the Nürburgring, flying through corners faster than what feels possible, or in Horizon 1 in the Rally Expansion, tearing up the stages that make me feel like I’m in Group B. It’s been in the game for so long I wouldn’t even be surprised if you have 1 or 2 in your garage. I for one will have this in every game to come. It’s fast, balanced, loud, crazy, and so much fun to drive. No matter which game you decide to use it in, it will feel like it’s right at home. Consistency is key with this car. It feels the same as it does on track as it does on dirt. It feels the same in FM3 as it does in FM7. It buzzes, pops, crackles, purrs, hums, turns, grips, slides, jumps. This is THE PERFECT all round car in the series, which is why it’s on this list. However, it’s not a car many know about. After all it was only produced for 2 years, and only 200 were made. It’s a car you should know about though. Especially if you’re an enthusiast. The Ford RS200 is my dream car. Call me biased, call me crazy, but for what it is, how it feels, how it looks even, there aren’t many that can top it. This is why it made it to Car of the Week.
